New Schedule & New Experiences with the Same Big Boys navigating and experiencing things together just us for the first time😊
Where to start… hmmm
We did some apple picking late last month and made a few apple pies. This was a first for the Boy Boys, we picked a bushel and a peck at Stribling orchard. Came home and started peeling lol. Evan loves to bake, and I had no idea how to make a pie thank goodness for google and online recipe. We whipped out 2 pies the first day. It was pretty rewarding and actually taste good lol. Nice to make something from the tree to the table especially with the Master Chef Evan.
Fall in Virginia is probably my favorite season; reasonable temperatures and a lot of beautiful scenery as well as tons of fall activities. We hit up Fairfax’s fall festival, did some rides played some games and then zipped down to REI for a winter coat and off to Fountain Hills park to catch a job boat ride on the Occoquan river/reservoir. We followed that up the next day with a trip to Great Falls, I used my Veterans life time pass to get us in for free😊. It’s a pretty cool park, a lot of history about the old boating channels and supply chain into and out of DC area. We had a pick nick in the cool misty afternoon as I listened and watched that kiddo chow down I could only just smile, and hold back the happy tears. The boy is doing amazing such a positive fella, such a smart guy and such a happy to his core person. I love listening to him and hearing how his mind works, what he notices, what he sees and what he thinks. It was a little chilly out, so we swooped on some hot coco supplies and a special E cup for the super kid, and then spent the rest of the day warming up, wrestling and playing at the Big Boy House.
And then, just like that Evan Bryan Hill started Preschool….. where did the time go, how did he grow up to preschool age so fast? Feels like I blinked and boom he’s off to school. He LOVES it the other kids and the teachers and especially the learning. Writing his name, working on all the letters in the alphabet he absolutely loves the experience and challenge though not much is a challenge for him quite yet. We closed out the month with an Epic Big Boy Halloween. Thankfully his red wagon was left at my house, so we converted it into a troop and supply transport complete with streaming Halloween Music. We stepped off just as the sun set and came back around 8:00 we must have walked 2 miles; well I did lol he rode on the wagon. Man did he have fun, a naturally shy guy he eventually worked through his shell and about halfway through the night was running up to the houses hollering trick-or-treat😊
That was the month, those were our activities and to a degree our experiences, throughout we each have our own internal dialogue playing; whether it’s about how a Michelangelo toy is just like your son (lol) or how your actual Son is so strong how he refuses to quit or stop until he’s accomplished what he’s after and how much he inspires you to be the best version of yourself. I watched this kid jump in the Jon Boat and immediately stick an oar in the water as I pushed us off shore. He absolutely refused to stop and allow the trolling motor to do the work. He just wouldn’t quit, he wasn’t angry about it, he was happy and laughing and loving the fact he was out in the water with his Dad paddling. He even asked where the fishing poles were (he pronounces is fwishing). I found myself just sitting back and watching him, not only his little features, hands, arms and legs, rowing but his little smile tiny teeth and ears. His face dashed with freckles and his infectious laugh all took me to a place of happiness in my heart I hadn’t been to in a while. All the while he’s trusting the oar in the water as far as he can and essentially just flipping it back p and causing a splash. That didn’t stop him as he went from side to side stroke after stroke that boy is STRONG mentally and physically that boy that boy…That boy restores me, my faith in people, in the future of the US, my love, my strength, my laughter my everything… maybe that’s because he’s my everything.
Until next month-
WE ARE BIG BOYS
what a wonderful world
