Q1 2020
2020-
What an experience so far and its only begun!
How about I start with pre-COVID activities haha.
January was a blast; we spent the second half of winter break together and jammed that week full of activities. Evans bro, Tanner even got to spend a few days with us over the break. We went ice skating, hit up an indoor water park and played with every new toy over and over 😊. Evan also attended his first black tie event! I bought hi a suit and hemmed the trousers, got him a nice pair of black shoes to match mine and we were off. We decided to stay in the hotel the event was held-which had a pool! Really cool to see your name printed on a big guest list, especially at 6! We wrapped up the month with more bro time, a professional basketball game and celebrated the grand opening of our Jiu Jitsu academy’s new location.
February- The best month of the year so far! January was full of a lot of group activities and bro sessions. February, over Valentines day weekend I took Evan to NYC for a few days. We took the train from DC all the way into a few blocks from Times Square. Our hotel was right in midtown and we walked Times Square a few times. We did it all in NYC- Hayden Planetarium, History Museum with a special T-Rex exhibit, Rockefeller Center/Top of the rock, Central Park, the Zoo and National Geographic Ocean Odyssey. I drank a lot of coffee and Evan just ran off of excitement as he saw and experienced so many new things from skyscrapers to taxi rides, he enjoyed every second. Guess who else was in NYC?-Tanner! We managed to grab lunch and hit up FAO Schwarz with him too. Before and after NYC we trained a lot of Jiu Jitsu its been great watching Evan progress with his understanding and body movement more importantly he’s opened up so much and gained a ton of confidence and I think his favorite part is the social aspect-he’s always so excited to see his friends. We rounded out the month with ihop time, Bryce’s birthday and after school bro sessions with Cruz.
March- The Beginning of the End lol well end of a lot of things albeit temporarily or whatever the future brings. The first few weeks of normal we hung out with friends at a birthday party, trained Jiu jitsu, hit up school and work like normal😊 March 13th-Friday the 13th HA! Evan’s School closed, for what was at the time supposed to be temporary. Later it would be extended for the remainder of the school year. This left us to continue pressing through kindergarten together, our time is limited but we crammed in a lot of work just like with do with our approach to activities. Game focused and interactive, my pintrest searching skills were strong as we made a Thor number game, spelling matching game and other interactive engaging games to keep the topics fresh and help retain new and old concepts. Other than that we spent the month playing at home just us 😊 a lot of trail walking, toy playing, rocket launching, Pokémon hunting fun.
What a wild and wonderful life- what in the heck is going on right now? Were all home and people are complaining about it. Who knows when things go back to normal but enjoy the focused one on one time with your loved ones. Imagine if it was limited to say 30% of the entire year- welcome to single Dad life. That’s why we go hard, fit a ton in and keep on truckin’. Life is too short and Evan is grown up so fast there is no time for the negative no time for the drama. Its experience all we can, teach all I can, learn from him all I can and show resilience perseverance and drive through “deeds not words”. Cross your fingers, do a dance pray and it will all workout 😊
